Interesting fact
There are four CTV vessels fitted with a Hull Vane®: Farra Lir, Farra Tuireann, Farra Eriu and Farra Macha.
For vessels such as the Farra Lir, the Hull Vane® technology provides some significant benefits in the real world.
First, it acts like a sea anchor to provide stability. Secondly, it significantly reduces pitching, heaving and rolling in rough seas. This keeps the deck incredibly stable, meaning offshore wind technicians won’t get seasick on the way to work.
It also generates free forward thrust. By flattening the stern wave (the large wake usually created by a fast-moving boat), the foil converts the wasted wave energy into forward thrust. This reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions by up to 15%, and sometimes even 25%.
