Hull Vane has reached a significant milestone with the order of its 100th physical unit, a landmark that traces back to the very first installation in 1997. What began as a pioneering hydrodynamic concept has evolved into a globally recognized solution for patrol vessels, superyachts, ferries, fast supply vessels and commercial shipping.
The 100th order represents more than just a sales achievement. It reflects nearly three decades of operational data, continuous refinement and a sustained commitment to reducing maritime emissions through physics-based innovation.
Since the initial installation, Hull Vane® technology has consistently delivered fuel savings of 5–15% across a diverse range of vessel types and sizes, spanning from 10-metre craft to 108-metre naval vessels. Cumulatively, the installed base has contributed to reducing over 46,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, with individual vessels achieving annual savings of hundreds of tonnes.
Key validated results from the expanding project portfolio include:
- MS Valais (31 m passenger ferry, Lake Geneva): – 15% fuel reduction (€480,000 in direct fuel savings) and 1,667 tonnes of CO2 avoided over ten years.
- Ava J McCall (59 m FSV, West Africa): – 11% average fuel savings; 650 tonnes of CO2 and 250,000 litres of diesel saved annually.
- 108 m Offshore Patrol Vessel: 12% fuel reduction, demonstrating scalability to larger naval platforms.
“Reaching 100 orders is as much a milestone for sustainability as it is for business,” said Niels Moerke, CEO of Hull Vane BV. “Each unit represents a significant and measurable reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and this is all achieved without the involvement of the crew or any impact on vessel operations. The payback period is typically between one and five years.”
This milestone also reflects Hull Vane’s growing global presence. With licensing partnerships now in place, including local manufacturing capability in Malaysia through Hayat Lestari Holdings, the company is continuing to reduce delivery times and strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas.
