Heesen Yachts launches M/Y Alive with Hull Vane

Sep 29, 2014

On Friday 29th of August, Heesen Yachts launched YN 17042 at their facility in Oss. The 42 metre displacement motoryacht, christened M/Y Alive, is their first yacht to feature a Hull Vane. See Heesen Shipyard’s press release here:

Model tests at the towing tank of Wolfson Unit in Southampton showed fuel savings on M/Y Alive of 20% at 12 knots up to 23% at 14.5 knots, on a hull design which already is very fuel efficient without Hull Vane (FDHF hull type of Van Oossanen Naval Architects). Besides fuel efficiency, the Hull Vane provides the following advantages on newbuild yachts such as M/Y Alive:

+   Reduced pitching movements, resulting in less seasickness

+   Reduced stern wave, resulting in less noise on the aft deck and less disturbance to other vessels

+   Reduced size of fuel tanks for the same range, resulting in more usable space for interior or storage space
